Tejiendo redes (2023-2024), A Collective Creation for the Conservation of the Meullín-Puye Nature Sanctuary
At Fundación Kreen, we view art as a powerful means of bringing together diverse perspectives and fostering a deeper awareness of the importance of caring for nature. We are also committed to strengthening our ties with the communities of Puerto Aysén and the surrounding area. In this context, the initiative Weaving Connections for the Conservation of the Meullín-Puye Nature Sanctuary was launched in 2023 and 2024.
Through this project, residents of the Río Los Palos community and Puerto Aysén drew inspiration from the natural environment around them and reconnected with their memories to create a range of artistic expressions rooted in the conservation and appreciation of the region’s biodiversity. Through drawing, weaving, textile art, and other creative disciplines, participants explored forms of expression that offer a powerful and distinctive way of communicating and engaging with the world around us.
As part of this initiative, four workshops brought together more than 40 participants. During these sessions, attendees learned embroidery, natural dyeing, and textile recycling techniques from experienced artisans and master embroiderers from the region. As a result of these workshops, facilitated by Pulso Austral, a collective artwork was created, bringing together each participant’s textile contribution into a single composition representing the flora and fauna of the Meullín-Puye Nature Sanctuary and its surrounding landscapes.
The final composition was assembled by Olga Aldauc, a textile artisan and recycler from Bahía Murta, who brought together the individual pieces into a work that reflects the natural and cultural richness of the region. The collective artwork was unveiled at an event held at the Puerto Aysén Public Library, which brought together local authorities, representatives of partner organizations, and many of the participants who had taken part in the various Weaving Connections workshops. For the occasion, the library was transformed into an artistic space showcasing both the works created during the workshops and the completed collective piece.
The event also provided an opportunity for reflection and dialogue. Through a community conversation, participants shared the emotions, experiences, and lessons that emerged throughout the creative process.
This initiative, led by Fundación Kreen and facilitated by Pulso Austral, was made possible with the support of the Municipality of Aysén, Santa Teresa de Los Andes School in Puerto Aysén, and the Laguna and Río Los Palos Community Development Committee.
