Second International Seminar on Nature Education
October 15, 2024We were present at the second International Seminar on Education in Nature (SIEAL 2024), organized by Manke Chile, which took place in Villa Cerro Castillo, at the foot of the imposing massif located next to the Carretera Austral, covering the communes of Río Ibáñez and Coyhaique, Aysén Region.
Carlos Mendoza, director of the Kreen Foundation, was one of the participants in the discussion held on October 11th with various stakeholders. The topics covered included sustainability, public education, collaborative work, and environmental education for the protection and conservation of natural environments.
Representatives from other public and private institutions also participated, including Junji Aysén, SLEP, Rewilding Chile Foundation, Renoval Foundation, and Comunidad Portal, among others.
We were able to reflect and exchange ideas on how to promote interest in nature conservation in public education from the vision and experience of Fundación Kreen.
In this instance, we discussed our collaborative work with educators from the Gabriela Mistral School, the Ribera Sur Elementary School, and the Santa Teresa de los Andes Bicentennial High School in Puerto Aysén on educational initiatives to promote these topics among children and young people.
The seminar brought together national and international speakers, and workshops were held between October 10 and 12.
Manke, a foundation dedicated to creating immersive experiences in Patagonia to promote nature-based education, organized the first edition of this event in Coyhaique in 2023. They will soon announce the location and date for the third edition.
