Water quality monitoring in the Puerto Aysén wetland

We began our community water quality monitoring initiative with a visit to the Las Ranas wetland located in Puerto Aysén.

In this first activity, students from the Sagrada Familia School and their teacher Giovanna Lanzarini accompanied us on site to take samples and measure the water quality of the wetland.

The meeting aimed to empower the community in their role as guardians of nature.

The wetland stretches along the Condell waterfront and is of great importance to the area, both for its biodiversity and its scenic value, among other things. Marcela Matus, Municipal Environmental Certification Coordinator for the Municipality of Aysén, was present and spoke about the process of declaring it an urban wetland and its relevance to the community.

Children from seventh grade through eleventh grade at the Sagrada Familia School in Aysén participated. They are part of the “Explorer Ducks: Cleaning Patagonia” group, which is part of their Humanade project (on Instagram @hum_anade).
