Teacher Training Program in Responsible Pet Ownership
November 6, 2024We had a very positive experience with teachers and environmental educators from Puerto Aysén, learning about responsible pet ownership within the framework of the Teacher Training Program on Responsible Pet Ownership and ONE Health.
This initiative, which spanned several weeks in both online and in-person formats, provided a holistic overview and concepts regarding the principles, behaviors, and attitudes contained in Law 21.020 on Responsible Pet Ownership.
This aimed not only to promote animal health but also human health and the health of ecosystems—interdependent aspects known as the One Health triad.
It consisted of theoretical classes with didactic activities so that teachers, in addition to understanding the concepts, could teach them in their educational communities.
The program, developed in conjunction with The Global Alliance for Animals and People (The GAAP), included an ongoing follow-up period for teachers in responsible pet ownership classes, during which their learning and how they shared the information in the classroom were evaluated.
In addition, a teaching kit with educational materials and tools was delivered to the Gabriela Mistral Poet School, the Ribera Sur School and the Santa Teresa de los Andes Bicentennial High School, so that each establishment can independently replicate what was learned with the different groups of students.
