One Health: A holistic approach to conservation
July 24, 2024Are you familiar with the One Health concept?
It’s a unified and integrated approach that seeks a sustainable balance to optimize the health of people, animals, and ecosystems.
This is how the four-party alliance comprised of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), the World Health Organization (WHO), the World Organisation for Animal Health (WHO), and the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) defines it.
One Health helps us understand, in a much more comprehensive way, the environmental challenges we face and how these influence both human and animal well-being.
The One Health perspective, for example, is key to understanding the issues and advancing responsible pet ownership, which is one of the areas we are working on as a foundation in conjunction with the Global Alliance for Animals NGO GAAP.
