Kreen Foundation at the first Nature Festival
October 18, 2024Schools in Puerto Aysén celebrated their first Nature Festival.
The event aimed to provide students with a hands-on, educational learning experience about the native flora and fauna of Patagonia.
The festival included theater and dance performances on nature themes, presented by various groups of children from the participating schools: Gabriela Mistral School, Ribera Sur Elementary School, Renoval Blanco School, and Aysén School.
The central theme of this first edition was “the call of the güiña cat,” inspired by the recent CONAF initiative, which included signage calling for the protection of this mammal in the Río Simpson National Reserve.
The festival was complemented by a science fair, in which the Kreen Foundation participated, in conjunction with the AyCiencia Foundation. Students were able to see and touch samples from a peat bog, as well as observe macroinvertebrates in detail through a magnifying glass.
Other institutions that participated with educational booths at the fair were Aysén Explora, the Aysén Municipality’s Environmental Unit, Sernapesca Aysén, the Fisheries Development Institute (IFOP), and CONAF Aysén.
The celebration of this festival took place within the framework of Environmental Steward Day, with the aim of highlighting the importance of this figure.
This first version was held at the Aysén School, whose gymnasium stands out for its beautiful murals representing Patagonia, illustrated and painted by the Aysén artist Cristián “Charly” Bustamante, transforming it into an excellent setting for this festival.
