Geoforms
The Sanctuary is located in a mountain range, with a rugged relief and heights above 3,000 m above sea level, where the Hudson, Macá and Cay volcanoes stand out, whose deposits and alluvial contributions would have shaped their basins.
This protected area can be divided into two major geomorphological units:
– The first is characterized by volcanic and glaciolacustrine reliefs, and includes the entirety of Lakes Yulton and Meullín and their water supply basins.
– The second is defined by the system of glaciofluvial valleys that develop between the lakes and the Aysén fjord, which within the land limits of the Sanctuary correspond to the basins of the Cuervo and Tabo rivers.
