Community’s connection to natural heritage

The connection with nature is described as a state of consciousness that encompasses cognitive aspects (related to knowledge or information), affective aspects (love for life), experiential aspects (living in natural environments) and action (caring for the environment).

In other words, a person who experiences these first three aspects can increase their empathy and love for nature, and demonstrate a greater commitment and responsible behavior towards its care.

When a community lives near protected areas, it has the potential to act as a guardian of these spaces and become a gateway community. By fulfilling custodial roles, these communities play a vital part in the care, threat control, management of domestic species, and monitoring, among other aspects. For this reason, Fundación Kreen seeks to encourage these communities’ interest in their natural heritage and support their understanding of biodiversity and its protection.
