Big puye and other native fish
At least 20 species of fish have been recorded in the Cuervo River basin, of which only one inhabits the upper part of the Sanctuary:
The big puye (Galaxias platei) is an endemic species of the continental waters of southern Chile and Argentina. It is also the only fish species present in all aquatic ecosystems of the Sanctuary, with the exception of the areas near the fjord.
At the mouth of the Cuervo River we also find the puye chico (Galaxias maculatus) and as we go further into the Aysén fjord we find a greater diversity of native species such as, for example: the snook (Eleginops maclovinus), the hake (Merluccius merluccius) and the conger eel (Conger conger), among others.
