Community mural about the flora and fauna of the Aysén region of Patagonia
January 22, 2025To bring a little bit of color, joy and light to this community” was the inspiration of muralist Cristián Bustamante (Charly) for the Community Mural project promoted by Fundación Kreen in Puerto Aysén.
Children from the Ribera Sur Elementary School participated in this initiative, creating a mural depicting the flora and fauna of the Aysén region of Patagonia in one of their school’s hallways. The mural also incorporates the “One Health” approach, which emphasizes the interdependence of human, animal, and environmental health.
The project involved several stages of work with the children, led by teacher María Neddy Jara, head of the school’s Pedagogical Technical Unit.
Initially, a survey was conducted to assess the students’ level of knowledge on these topics and their perceptions of their physical spaces.
Talks were also held on the One Health concept and on art, creative processes, and mural painting, the latter led by the artist who created the mural. Additionally, a drawing session was held to develop sketches for the mural, followed by a hands-on workshop on the school wall.
The creation of the mural brought together students and teachers, who showed great enthusiasm and commitment to this educational project on nature conservation.
